Cellular Receptor Dynamics

Meaning

Cellular receptor dynamics refers to the continuous, tightly regulated processes governing the number, location, and functional state of specific protein receptors on or within a cell. These receptors are the primary targets for hormones and other signaling molecules, translating external messages into internal cellular responses. The responsiveness of a cell to a hormonal signal is fundamentally determined by the up-regulation, down-regulation, internalization, and recycling of its corresponding receptors.
