Cellular Permissiveness

Meaning

Cellular Permissiveness describes the degree to which a cell or tissue is functionally receptive and responsive to an external signal, such as a hormone, growth factor, or nutrient. High permissiveness indicates optimal conditions for signal transduction, allowing the full biological effect of a circulating molecule to be expressed. Conversely, reduced permissiveness, often termed resistance, diminishes the cell’s ability to translate the signal into an appropriate physiological action.
