Cellular Hypometabolism

Meaning

Cellular Hypometabolism describes a pathological state where a cell or tissue exhibits a significantly reduced rate of metabolic activity and energy expenditure, often due to mitochondrial dysfunction or impaired nutrient sensing. This decrease in basal metabolic rate at the cellular level is frequently observed in chronic disease states, including hypothyroidism and conditions associated with accelerated aging. It represents a fundamental energy deficit that compromises normal physiological function and repair processes.
