Cellular Dysfunction

Meaning

Cellular dysfunction describes a state where the basic operational processes within a cell deviate from their optimal homeostatic parameters, leading to impaired tissue and organ function. This pathological state encompasses issues like mitochondrial compromise, altered gene expression, or impaired cellular signaling, all of which precede overt disease. In endocrinology, this often manifests as reduced receptor sensitivity or inefficient hormone synthesis and metabolism.
