Causality

Meaning

Causality is the scientific principle establishing a relationship where one event, termed the cause or exposure, contributes to the production of a subsequent event, known as the effect or outcome. In clinical and epidemiological practice, establishing a causal link is paramount for determining whether a therapeutic intervention truly improves health or if a risk factor genuinely contributes to disease development. It moves beyond mere correlation to assert a direct, mechanistic influence between variables.
