Catecholamine Precursors

Meaning

Catecholamine Precursors are the amino acid and intermediate molecules required by the body to synthesize the critical neurotransmitters and hormones known as catecholamines, which include dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine. These precursors, primarily L-Tyrosine and L-DOPA, are essential nutritional building blocks for the central nervous system and the adrenal medulla. Adequate availability of these precursors is necessary for the proper functioning of the sympathetic nervous system and for maintaining mood, focus, and the acute stress response. Their clinical utility lies in supporting endogenous neurotransmitter synthesis in cases of depletion or chronic stress.
