Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Meaning

A common mononeuropathy characterized by compression of the median nerve as it passes through the rigid carpal tunnel in the wrist. This clinical presentation often involves paresthesia, pain, and weakness in the median nerve distribution, significantly impacting manual dexterity and quality of life. Fluctuations in hormonal status, particularly those related to fluid retention during pregnancy or perimenopause, can significantly contribute to the swelling of tenosynovium, thereby exacerbating nerve compression.
