Cardiovascular Outcome Trials

Meaning

Cardiovascular Outcome Trials, or CVOTs, are large-scale, long-duration clinical studies specifically designed to assess the effect of a new therapeutic agent, often an endocrine-modulating drug, on major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE). These rigorous trials are frequently mandated by regulatory bodies to confirm that novel agents for conditions like diabetes or obesity do not increase cardiovascular risk. Primary endpoints typically include non-fatal myocardial infarction, non-fatal stroke, and cardiovascular-related death, providing essential safety data for clinical decision-making.
