Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance

Meaning

Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) is a sophisticated, non-invasive medical imaging modality that provides comprehensive anatomical and functional assessment of the heart and major blood vessels. It is considered the gold standard for quantifying cardiac chamber volumes, myocardial mass, and global or regional ventricular function without the use of ionizing radiation. CMR offers superior soft-tissue contrast, allowing for precise tissue characterization of the myocardium, including the detection of fibrosis, edema, or fat infiltration.
