Cardiorenal Syndrome

Meaning

Cardiorenal Syndrome (CRS) defines a spectrum of pathophysiological disorders where acute or chronic dysfunction in one organ, either the heart or the kidneys, induces or exacerbates dysfunction in the other. This bidirectional, complex relationship highlights the interconnected nature of systemic physiology and is classified into five distinct subtypes based on the primary initiating organ and the time course of the injury. Understanding CRS is paramount in endocrinology, as metabolic and hormonal imbalances often contribute to the progression of both cardiac and renal pathology.
