Cardiopulmonary Exercise Test

Meaning

The Cardiopulmonary Exercise Test, or CPET, is a non-invasive clinical assessment that precisely measures the integrated function of the cardiovascular, pulmonary, and skeletal muscle systems during incremental physical exertion. This gold-standard test determines an individual’s maximal oxygen uptake (VO2 max), ventilatory thresholds, and respiratory exchange ratio. CPET data provides an objective, quantifiable measure of cardiorespiratory fitness and metabolic efficiency, which are key indicators of biological age.
