Cardiomyocytes

Meaning

The specialized, striated muscle cells that constitute the bulk of the myocardial tissue, the muscular wall of the heart. These cells are unique in their ability to generate and conduct electrical impulses, leading to synchronized contraction, which is essential for the heart’s pumping action. Their health and function are critically influenced by systemic hormonal signaling, particularly thyroid and catecholamine hormones.
