Cardiometabolic Syndrome

Meaning

Cardiometabolic Syndrome (CMS) is a clinical entity defined as a cluster of interrelated physiological abnormalities that significantly increase an individual’s risk for developing cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is not a single disease but rather a complex, chronic, and progressive pathophysiological state. The diagnosis is typically confirmed when a patient presents with three or more specific risk factors, including central obesity, elevated blood pressure, high fasting glucose, high triglycerides, and low HDL cholesterol levels. Clinically recognizing this syndrome allows for a targeted, multi-faceted approach to risk factor modification and management.
