Cardiac Remodeling

Meaning

Cardiac remodeling is a complex biological process involving molecular, cellular, and interstitial changes that lead to alterations in the size, shape, and function of the heart muscle, often in response to pathological stress. This structural reorganization, typically triggered by conditions like hypertension, myocardial infarction, or chronic hormonal imbalance, can initially be compensatory but frequently progresses to ventricular dysfunction and heart failure. In hormonal health, the long-term effects of deficiencies or excesses, particularly of thyroid or sex hormones, can significantly influence this pathological progression.
