Cardiac Biomarkers

Meaning

Cardiac Biomarkers are measurable biological substances found in the blood or other body fluids that indicate a normal or abnormal function of the heart, or the presence of a pathological process affecting the myocardium. These clinical indicators are vital for the diagnosis, risk stratification, and prognosis of acute coronary syndromes and heart failure. Key examples include high-sensitivity troponins, B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP), and C-reactive protein (CRP), each reflecting different aspects of cardiac stress or injury. They provide objective, quantitative evidence of cardiac status.
