CAG Repeat

Meaning

The CAG Repeat denotes a specific sequence of three nucleotides, Cytosine-Adenine-Guanine, that is tandemly repeated within a gene’s structure. In clinical genetics, the length of this trinucleotide repeat is directly correlated with the risk and severity of certain inherited disorders. For instance, in the context of hormonal health, its length within the Androgen Receptor gene is clinically significant. An abnormal expansion of these repeats dictates the phenotypic expression.
