CAG Repeat Sequence

Meaning

The CAG Repeat Sequence is a specific trinucleotide repeat of Cytosine-Adenine-Guanine found within the coding region of certain genes, most notably the Androgen Receptor (AR) gene located on the X chromosome. The number of these consecutive CAG repeats is inversely correlated with the functional efficiency and transcriptional activity of the resulting protein. Clinically, variations in the length of this polyglutamine tract are significant, as an excessively long sequence can lead to reduced androgen receptor function, potentially influencing androgen sensitivity and hormonal health outcomes.
