CAG Repeat Polymorphism

Meaning

A CAG Repeat Polymorphism refers to a genetic variation characterized by differences in the number of times a specific three-nucleotide sequence, cytosine-adenine-guanine (CAG), is repeated consecutively within a gene’s DNA. These variations are common across the human genome, but when the number of repeats exceeds a certain threshold in particular genes, it can lead to altered protein function and is associated with various inherited neurological conditions.
