C-Peptide Replacement

Meaning

C-Peptide Replacement refers to the therapeutic administration of exogenous C-peptide to individuals with insufficient endogenous production, primarily those with Type 1 diabetes or advanced Type 2 diabetes. This intervention aims to restore physiological C-peptide levels, which are typically deficient when the pancreatic beta cells no longer produce insulin. C-peptide, a 31-amino acid peptide, is co-secreted with insulin in equimolar amounts following the cleavage of proinsulin, serving as a reliable marker of endogenous insulin secretion.
