C-Peptide

Meaning

C-peptide, or connecting peptide, is a short protein fragment released into the bloodstream in equimolar amounts with insulin when proinsulin is cleaved in the pancreatic beta cells. Its primary function within the cell is to facilitate the correct folding of insulin within the secretory granules before its release into circulation. This co-secretion makes it a reliable indicator of the body’s own insulin production.
