Bridging Study

Meaning

A Bridging Study is a specialized clinical trial conducted to extrapolate the efficacy and safety data of a drug obtained in one population (often Western) to a new region or ethnic population (often Asian). The core purpose is to determine if the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic characteristics of the drug are comparable across different ethnic groups, thereby ‘bridging’ the existing clinical data. In the hormonal space, these studies are essential to ensure that a standardized hormone formulation or dosing regimen is safe and effective when introduced to a new population with potentially different genetic or metabolic profiles.
