Breast Tissue Composition

Meaning

The structural makeup of the mammary gland, primarily defined by the relative proportions of glandular (epithelial and stromal) tissue versus adipose (fatty) tissue. This composition is a significant clinical metric, often quantified using imaging modalities like mammography to determine breast density. Hormonal fluctuations throughout a woman’s life, as well as hormone replacement therapy, exert a substantial influence on the glandular and fatty ratios.
