Breast Tissue

Meaning

Breast tissue, anatomically known as the mammary gland, is a complex, heterogenous structure composed of glandular, fibrous, and adipose components. Functionally, it is an exocrine gland specialized for lactation, though its morphology and density are significantly influenced by hormonal fluctuations throughout a woman’s life cycle. Clinically, the composition of this tissue, particularly the ratio of dense fibrous and glandular elements to fatty tissue, is important for mammographic screening and risk assessment. Maintaining hormonal balance is integral to the health and structural integrity of this dynamic tissue.
