Breast Cell Proliferation

Meaning

Breast cell proliferation refers to the process of cell division and increase in the number of epithelial cells within the mammary gland tissue. This mitotic activity is a normal physiological process throughout life, particularly during puberty, pregnancy, and the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle, driven primarily by the cyclical actions of estrogen and progesterone. However, excessive or dysregulated proliferation can be a clinical concern, as it is a fundamental step in the initiation and progression of breast carcinogenesis.
