BPH

Meaning

BPH is the clinical abbreviation for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, a non-malignant, age-associated enlargement of the prostate gland in men. This common urological condition results from the proliferation of both stromal and epithelial cells within the prostate transition zone. The enlargement can compress the urethra, leading to bothersome lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) such as frequency, urgency, and a weak urinary stream. While benign, BPH significantly impacts health-related quality of life and requires careful clinical management.
