Bone Turnover

Meaning

Bone Turnover is the continuous, cyclical process of bone remodeling, which involves the synchronized removal of old bone tissue, known as resorption, and the subsequent formation of new bone tissue, called ossification. This constant renewal is a fundamental physiological necessity for maintaining the mechanical strength of the skeleton, repairing microscopic damage, and regulating mineral homeostasis. An optimal rate of turnover is essential for long-term skeletal health.
