Bone Resorption

Meaning

Bone Resorption is the essential physiological process where osteoclasts actively break down and remove mineralized bone tissue from the skeleton. This controlled degradation is necessary for normal bone remodeling, repair of microfractures, and maintenance of calcium homeostasis. However, when resorption becomes excessive relative to formation, pathological bone loss ensues. This catabolic activity must be precisely balanced by osteoblastic activity.
