Bone Remodeling

Meaning

Bone remodeling is the continuous, coupled physiological process where mature bone tissue is removed through resorption by osteoclasts and subsequently replaced by new bone matrix synthesized by osteoblasts. This dynamic cycling is vital for maintaining skeletal mechanical integrity and ensuring systemic calcium and phosphate homeostasis. It is a tightly controlled, lifelong biological renovation project. Disruptions to this coupling lead to skeletal pathology.
