Body Roundness Index

Meaning

The Body Roundness Index, or BRI, is an anthropometric measure designed to estimate body fat percentage and visceral adipose tissue accumulation based on height and waist circumference. It offers a more nuanced assessment of body composition and fat distribution than the traditional Body Mass Index, or BMI, which only considers weight and height. A higher BRI value correlates clinically with an increased risk of cardiometabolic disease, which is directly linked to hormonal dysregulation. Clinicians utilize this index as a practical tool for initial screening of central obesity risk in patient populations.
