Body Acne

Meaning

Body Acne, clinically termed acne vulgaris of the trunk, is a chronic inflammatory skin condition characterized by the formation of non-inflammatory lesions like comedones, and inflammatory lesions such as papules, pustules, and nodules, predominantly on the back, chest, and shoulders. This dermatological pathology involves the pilosebaceous unit, where follicular hyperkeratinization and increased sebum production lead to obstruction and subsequent colonization by the bacterium Cutibacterium acnes. The condition is often influenced by systemic factors, including hormonal fluctuations and mechanical irritation, affecting a large percentage of the population.
