Blunted ACTH Response

Meaning

A blunted ACTH response signifies a suboptimal or diminished release of Adrenocorticotropic Hormone from the pituitary gland following a physiological or pharmacological stimulus. This indicates that the pituitary’s capacity to adequately produce and secrete ACTH, which is crucial for adrenal cortisol production, is impaired or suppressed. The expected rise in ACTH levels in response to a specific trigger is noticeably less than what is considered normal or healthy.
