Bisphosphonates

Meaning

Bisphosphonates are a class of pharmaceutical compounds primarily recognized for their ability to inhibit bone resorption. These synthetic analogs of pyrophosphate are specifically designed to bind to hydroxyapatite crystals within the bone matrix, thereby interfering with the normal bone remodeling process. Their core function involves reducing the activity and number of osteoclasts, the cells responsible for breaking down bone tissue.
