Bisphenol A

Meaning

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a synthetic organic compound widely employed in the manufacturing of polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins, which are commonly found in food and beverage containers. It is clinically significant as a prototypical endocrine-disrupting chemical (EDC) because its structure allows it to interfere with the synthesis, secretion, transport, binding, action, or elimination of endogenous hormones. The primary concern is the potential for chronic, low-dose exposure to disrupt the delicate balance of the human endocrine system.
