Bipolar Androgen Therapy (BAT)

Meaning

Bipolar Androgen Therapy, or BAT, is a specialized clinical approach primarily studied in the context of advanced prostate cancer that has become resistant to traditional androgen deprivation therapy. This therapeutic strategy involves intentionally cycling patients between extremely high, supraphysiological levels of testosterone and very low, castrate levels of androgens. The goal is to re-sensitize prostate cancer cells to androgen deprivation by exploiting the mechanisms of the androgen receptor.
