Biophilic Design

Meaning

Biophilic Design is an architectural and interior design strategy that intentionally incorporates elements of the natural world into the built environment to promote human health and psychological well-being. This design approach is founded on the hypothesis that humans possess an innate, evolutionary need to connect with nature, a concept known as biophilia. Practical applications involve integrating natural light, organic forms, water features, and views of nature to create spaces that reduce physiological stress and support optimal cognitive function. Implementing biophilic elements is a non-pharmacological method for positively influencing the autonomic nervous system and supporting hormonal balance.
