Biomarker Discordance Analysis

Meaning

Biomarker Discordance Analysis is a systematic clinical evaluation comparing two or more cardiovascular or metabolic biomarkers that typically correlate but show an unexpected deviation in a specific patient. A common example is the discordance between a normal LDL-Cholesterol (LDL-C) mass concentration and an elevated LDL Particle Number (LDL-P), or a discrepancy between insulin levels and fasting glucose. This analytical approach reveals underlying, often hidden, physiological risk factors that are obscured by traditional, single-marker assessments. Recognizing discordance is critical for precision risk stratification and tailoring effective therapeutic interventions.
