Biological Time Decoupling

Meaning

Biological time decoupling refers to the clinical and physiological observation where an individual’s measurable biological age, as determined by validated biomarkers like epigenetic clocks, significantly differs from their chronological age. Decoupling implies that the intrinsic rate of aging has been either accelerated or, ideally, decelerated and reversed through genetic factors, lifestyle, or therapeutic interventions. The primary clinical goal in longevity medicine is to achieve a positive decoupling, meaning the biological age is substantially lower than the chronological age, indicating superior healthspan and reduced risk of age-related disease.
