Biological Plausibility

Meaning

Biological Plausibility is a fundamental criterion in clinical and epidemiological science used to assess whether a proposed cause-and-effect relationship is consistent with the established body of knowledge concerning human anatomy, physiology, and pathology. In the context of hormonal health, a hypothesized interaction, such as a hormone’s effect on a specific tissue receptor, must align logically with known endocrinological principles and biochemical pathways. A finding gains scientific credence when it can be reasonably explained by existing, well-understood cellular and molecular mechanisms. This principle acts as a crucial filter for evaluating the scientific coherence of observed associations in research.
