Biological Independence

Meaning

The state where an individual’s core physiological systems, especially the neuroendocrine axis, maintain robust internal regulation despite external environmental stressors or challenges. This signifies a high degree of intrinsic homeostasis, where feedback loops effectively buffer against perturbations to hormone balance. We define this as the capacity for the system to self-correct rapidly. True independence means minimal reliance on external pharmacological support for baseline function.
