Biological Burnout

Meaning

Biological Burnout refers to a state of chronic physiological exhaustion and systemic dysregulation resulting from prolonged, unmitigated exposure to physical, psychological, or environmental stressors that exceed the body’s adaptive capacity. This condition is characterized by a sustained disruption of neuroendocrine and metabolic axes, notably the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, leading to altered cortisol patterns and downstream effects on thyroid and gonadal hormones. Unlike simple fatigue, this represents a fundamental depletion of biological resources, impacting cellular energy production and immune function. Recognizing this state requires moving beyond psychological symptoms to identify the measurable underlying physiological imbalance.
