Biological Availability

Meaning

Biological Availability, often used interchangeably with bioavailability, quantifies the fraction of an administered substance, such as a hormone or pharmaceutical agent, that reaches the systemic circulation and is thus able to access its site of action. This metric is crucial in clinical endocrinology for determining the appropriate dosage and route of administration for hormone replacement therapy. It is expressed as a percentage of the dose that enters the bloodstream unmodified, ready to exert its physiological effect.
