Biological Amplification, also known as biomagnification, describes the process by which the concentration of a substance, often a persistent pollutant, increases progressively at successively higher trophic levels in a food chain. Organisms at the top of the food web accumulate significantly higher levels of these substances in their tissues compared to organisms at lower levels.
