Biocompatibility

Meaning

Biocompatibility describes the ability of a material or device to exist in contact with living biological systems without causing an unacceptable adverse local or systemic response. This clinical criterion is critical in hormonal health, particularly for implanted devices such as hormone pellets or drug delivery systems. A high degree of biocompatibility ensures that the material does not provoke inflammation, toxicity, or immunological rejection, thereby maintaining the integrity and function of the therapeutic intervention.
