Bio-Equivalence

Meaning

Bio-equivalence is a core pharmaceutical concept demonstrating that two different formulations of the same drug, often a generic and a brand-name product, exhibit comparable bioavailability when administered to the same individual under similar conditions. This means the rate and extent to which the active ingredient is absorbed and becomes available at the site of action are essentially the same. Achieving bio-equivalence is crucial in hormonal health, ensuring that patients switching between products maintain consistent physiological exposure to the hormone. The clinical outcome and therapeutic effect must be comparable between the two preparations.
