Binge Eating Disorder

Meaning

Binge Eating Disorder is a clinical diagnosis defined by recurrent episodes of eating unusually large amounts of food in a short period, accompanied by a distinct feeling of loss of control. This condition is distinct from other eating disorders as it does not involve the use of compensatory behaviors like purging. Within the hormonal health space, this disorder is intimately linked to significant dysregulation in satiety and hunger hormones, specifically leptin, ghrelin, and cholecystokinin. It represents a significant challenge to the maintenance of metabolic homeostasis and often correlates strongly with the development of insulin resistance.
