Beta-Amyloid

Meaning

Beta-amyloid refers to a peptide fragment, primarily Aβ40 and Aβ42, generated from the proteolytic cleavage of Amyloid Precursor Protein (APP). This peptide is a critical component in Alzheimer’s disease pathogenesis, forming insoluble aggregates within the brain parenchyma. Its normal physiological function remains an area of ongoing scientific investigation.
