Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)

Meaning

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, commonly abbreviated as BPH, is a non-malignant, age-associated enlargement of the prostate gland in men, resulting from an increase in the number of epithelial and stromal cells. This glandular expansion often leads to the compression of the urethra, causing lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) such as frequency, urgency, and a weak stream. BPH is a highly prevalent clinical condition in aging men, and while benign, it significantly impacts quality of life and necessitates clinical management.
