Bazedoxifene

Meaning

Bazedoxifene is a third-generation pharmaceutical agent categorized as a Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator (SERM), used clinically for the prevention and treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis. Unlike traditional SERMs, it is often formulated in combination with conjugated estrogens (CE) to create a tissue-selective estrogen complex (TSEC). This strategic combination is designed to provide the beneficial effects of estrogen on bone and vasomotor symptoms while concurrently mitigating the proliferative effects of estrogen on the endometrium and breast tissue. It represents an advancement in hormone-based therapies for women’s health and skeletal maintenance.
