Autonomic Nervous System Constraint

Meaning

Autonomic Nervous System Constraint refers to a diminished functional flexibility or a chronic state of imbalance within the sympathetic and parasympathetic branches of the involuntary nervous system. This constraint impairs the body’s ability to rapidly and appropriately adjust vital physiological functions, including heart rate variability, digestion, and stress hormone release, in response to environmental or internal demands. A persistent dominance of one branch, typically the sympathetic, represents a critical deviation from optimal homeostatic regulation and often correlates with states of chronic stress and hormonal dysregulation.
