Autoimmune Reactions

Meaning

Autoimmune reactions represent a pathological state where the body’s immune system mistakenly initiates a targeted response against its own healthy tissues and cells. This immunological error results in chronic inflammation and subsequent tissue damage, which can affect nearly any organ system, including endocrine glands. Clinically, these reactions are the underlying cause of autoimmune diseases, such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis or Type 1 diabetes. The core issue is a loss of immunological self-tolerance.
