Autoimmune Reactions

Meaning

Autoimmune reactions represent a pathological state where the body’s immune system erroneously identifies its own healthy cells and tissues as foreign invaders, subsequently launching an attack against them. This represents a critical departure from normal immune function, which is designed to distinguish between self and non-self to protect the organism from external threats like pathogens. Instead of defense, these reactions lead to chronic inflammation and damage to specific organs or systemic tissues.
